Born with sickle cell disease 35 years ago, Allan has lived much of his life navigating the chronic pain and complex physical and emotional challenges associated with the condition. From an early age, he experienced firsthand the gaps in healthcare access, public understanding, and patient advocacy that many individuals with sickle cell disease continue to face today.

After years of recurring pain crises and medical complications, Allan underwent a groundbreaking gene therapy treatment that successfully treated his sickle cell disease. This transformative experience not only restored his health but also strengthened his commitment to ensuring that others living with the condition have access to accurate information, quality healthcare, and compassionate support.

Motivated by both personal and professional purpose, Allan became a licensed psychotherapist in Uganda and the United States. He specializes in supporting individuals and families affected by chronic illness, trauma, and systemic healthcare disparities. His lived experience, combined with clinical expertise, enables him to offer a deeply empathetic and advocacy-driven approach to care.

As Founder and Director of the Byamukama Sickle Cell Foundation, Allan leads initiatives focused on awareness, improved healthcare outcomes, policy advocacy, and community engagement. Through education and strategic partnerships, he continues to champion equitable, respectful, and effective care for individuals living with sickle cell disease.
